Pre-War Queenslander
Architecture | Interior Design | Landscape Design
Project Summary
Hampton-styled architectural transformations of traditional Queenslanders have become a popular architectural trend in Brisbane, and with good reason. The Hampton style is highly compatible with Queenslanders due to the weatherboard cladding and high level of timber craftsmanship which are common to both forms. This style has a sense of timeless elegance, soul and character. It is worth mentioning that Hampton extensions are easily compatible with Brisbane City Council town planning codes for character protected buildings.
This Queenslander was high on grandeur but limited on space. With only 2 bedrooms, this home needed to grow to accommodate all the soon-to-be visiting grandchildren. Situated on a sloping block, the architectural plans propose to lift and build a new level below, while retaining all the Queenslander elements of this home on the floor above. The design features a new high-ceiling deck extension overlooking a new pool. Some minor repositioning of walls has opened up a connection between the kitchen, dining and new deck area.
